Why Eating More Is Often the Key to Getting Fit

Here is something that surprises almost every new client: when we start working together, most of them need to eat more food.

The instinct is understandable. Want to change your body? The usual answer is to eat less. In practice that approach quietly backfires, especially for busy parents around Dripping Springs who are already running on fumes between school drop-offs, Hill Country sports practices and the general beautiful chaos of a full week.

What under-eating actually does

When you cut food too hard, the first thing you lose is energy. Workouts feel awful, so you skip them. Afternoon focus disappears, so the day runs on coffee and willpower. In the evening, hunger that has been ignored all day shows up as a pantry raid you blame on yourself. You did not fail your diet; your biology answered it.

Under-eating also costs you muscle. If you are strength training, and if you train with me you are, food is half the program. You cannot build a stronger body out of nothing.

What eating more really means

Eating more means more of the things that make you feel like a person:

  • More protein: a palm-sized portion at every meal. Eggs at breakfast, chicken at lunch, Greek yogurt in the afternoon.
  • More produce: fruit with breakfast, a vegetable at two meals a day. Frozen counts.
  • More real meals: three proper meals beat a day of grazing followed by a big night.
  • More permission: a planned cookie tastes better than a stolen one. Food you enjoy, inside the plan, is what makes a way of eating hold for years.

The parent problem

If you have little kids, this runs even deeper. Too many moms I meet live on coffee and their kids' leftovers all day, then wonder why they feel foggy, snacky and exhausted by 8 p.m. You are under-fueled. Eating a real lunch is one of the most practical fitness decisions you will make all week.

The honest version

Getting fit is mostly two things: train consistently, and feed the training. Cutting food hard while asking your body to get stronger is a fight you will lose. Eating enough of the right things, meaning protein, produce, real meals and food you like, is how progress actually lasts.

That shift, from restriction to fueling, is the heart of nutrition coaching with me. MoSwo Fit coaches clients across Dripping Springs, Belterra, Driftwood and the surrounding Hill Country, and if this sounds like the direction you need, reach out and tell me where you are starting from.
